I agree with the draft making 2675 historic that we will never reach the
need to expand the payload length field from 16bit to 32 bit. We could
always revisit in the future but very doubtful it would ever happen.

Sorry my comment on usage of 65535 MTU was wrong.

I have deployed 9216 within the core and 9100 to the CE infrastructure
edges  giving 116 bytes of overhead for MPLS and Misc overhead bytes for
customer traffic to use 9100 Super Jumbo as necessary for apps requiring
high throughput.  We have never used any MTU beyond 9216 and to date I
don't think and Router or host OS vendor supports.
