Luckily my CPE doesn’t run Linux:

vpp# show interface
              Name Idx State MTU (L3/IP4/IP6/MPLS) Counter Count
blåbærsyltetøy0/0/0            1     down         9000/0/0/0
local0                            0     down          0/0/0/0

When the linux side of a virtio interface is connected, is does indeed limit to:
blåbærsyltet?: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST>  mtu 1500
        inet6 fe80::fe:feff:fee4:e449  prefixlen 64  scopeid 0x20<link>
        ether 02:fe:fe:e4:e4:49  txqueuelen 1000  (Ethernet)
        RX packets 1  bytes 150 (150.0 B)
        RX errors 0  dropped 0  overruns 0  frame 0
        TX packets 6  bytes 516 (516.0 B)
        TX errors 0  dropped 0 overruns 0  carrier 0  collisions 0

Cheers,
Ole
