HI, sorry for the duplicates, but I thought it might be of wider interest.

SURFnet has recently published a FREE booklet, pompously titled: "How to
build a Directory Service". The booklet intents to give an overview of the
various issues that someone who wants to start a DS will encounter. It's
based on the experiences in the SURFnet X.500 project so far.

It covers:
- Brief introduction to X.500
- Introduction to the legal issues (aimed at European law)
- Infrastructure issues
- Datamanagement issues (Describes three case studies)
- It concludes with a set of recommendations

Although this booklet is speciffically aimed at the SURFnet environment, we
thought it sufficiently general to write it in English rather than Dutch.
Also apart from the X.500 and infrastructure charpter the booklet is not
X.500 specific and the remaining chapters apply to other protocols (WHOIS++
etc.) as well.

If you would like to have copies of this book (FREE of charge), send E-mail
to: admin@surfnet.nl

Indicate:
- how many copies you would like to receive.
- The title: "How to build a Directory Service".
- Your postal address

Thanks,
Erik
