Hello Jeffrey,

evidence based on my very recent experience with european airlines 
travelling outside EU, you really need to check with Lufthansa call 
center and come to the airport several hours in advance.

The QR code comes with all certificates so most likely they need those 
codes while not accepting others (thay may are not compatible with their 
readers).

Forget common sense, forget crowd knowledge.
