NRL’s open-source IPv6+IPsec for 4.4 BSD UNIX was the 1st with IPv6 packets on the wire and also the 1st implementation of IPsec.  It was the basis for many (most ?) 1st generation commercial IPsec implementations and also was used in some early IPv6 implementations.  It was developed/tested both on SPARC and x86 hardware.

Without NRL’s open-source implementation, IPsec would have taken years longer to make it both into standards and into products.
