All,

The chairs and the authors discussed the CoAP draft recently. We agreed that we need to push the CoAP draft since CoMAN may take a long time to converge and become usable. We also agreed that some changes were required to the CoAP draft to make any future transition to CoMAN easy. The changes discussed are as follows -

  1. Add versioning info – This will allow heterogenous 6top nodes to communicate in the same network and PCE (or peer nodes) to take advantages of resources available in future versions. Also allows easier transition to CoMAN.
     * Added text to RFC. attached changes in versioning.txt (this is a git diff for easy review)
  2. Shorten resource names – to reduce overhead
     * Added text to RFC. Attached changes in changetouri.txt

The third and most important discussion was -
3. How do nodes exchange the version data (with PCE and other nodes) of nodes so a network of heterogenous nodes (w.r.t version) can interoperate.
1. Proposal - use the joining flows defined in draft-richardson-6tisch--security-6top-03

Comments and suggestions on this proposal are requested.

The updated draft is available on bitbucket - https://bitbucket.org/6tisch/draft-ietf-6tisch-coap/overview
