The problem is that the text we're all referring to is an implicit threat that
the author might sue you if you violate the terms of the purported license. We
all have our opinions about how realistic that threat is, but if the IETF were
to say we can ignore it, it would have to indemnify people in the unlikely event
that the threat were carried out. That is not a rathole I have any interest in
going near.
