I have tried to use Graphviz' SVG output, also KGT railroad diagrams.

In both cases, even after using a tool to strip colors etc (see
<https://github.com/reschke/xml2rfc/blob/master/prep-xml2rfc.xslt>), the
lack of markers made things really hard.
