Well, we’ve tried that before. We’ve put in a great deal of time and effort to make architectural changes. And they were met 
with total indifference.

My takeaway from this is that the only time that change is welcome or even possible is when there is a great deal of 
(perceived) pain. The pain MUST be much much greater than the pain of change. Architectural improvement is not welcome.

The last time the IAB articulated that there was such a threat of pain was the ROAD conference in the early ‘90s. That
led to the architectural (non)change of IPv6.

Thus, until there is a serious architectural threat, the only thing to do is to sit quietly and wait for time to pass.
