Same here. I've said many a time from the chair seat that we are working on the "plumbing", "IP" and, tongue-in-cheek a bit,  "Layer 3 plus or minus half a layer"

Of course, the network layer affects the transport layer affects the app layer, etc.  The cross area review of the IETF and IESG helps to remind us of this lest we forget. It's not just what goes on above that matters, we've had IEEE folks come in to let us know what's happening below us as well.

Ultimately though, this group is as tightly focused as we can manage to be on the Internet Area in terms of deliverables. It would be a farce to believe we had the ability to do otherwise.
