I am not sure it would be correct and consistent to link to an outside source for our own documents.

But that would then not be the final version, which I think is incorrect from an archiving perspective.

I think it would be good to formally archive the final version. At the same time I don't think it would be good to publish it as a separate RFC, because that would then give it too much visibility.
