I imagine that the note takers had enough to keep up with without having to constantly look at the WebEx GUI to see who is talking.

I personally found it difficult to tell who was speaking when looking at a list of oto 150 people, especially when it competes with the message pane for screen real estate. The tiles at the top help some, but the distinction between the current and recent speakers could be a bit more, well, distinctive.
