And for the next time you go to Australia the law are similar there.
Flick knives are illegal and you need a lawful excuse to carry a
knife.  "Defence of self" is explicitly excluded from the list of
lawful excuses.  It it also illegal to sell a knife to someone under
18.  I don't know how someone who has left home at < 18 is supposed
to stock a kitchen without help from someone 18 or over.
