Yes, Skype set a good example for self test on audio stream, audio stream play back is something we are more interested.

The self-test didn't detect the problem I had, which was absence of room sound. (The Skype self test does better, by recording what you say and playing it back to you. If the self test generated some synthetic sound *and* told you on the screen that it was doing so, that would help this particular problem.)
