We're still going! :-)

But the objective is different from what is being discussed here.  We
(LACNIC/LACNOG) mostly sold the idea of a Remote Hub as a way to build
local community and social connections with people with common
interests: get together with your friends...which would lead for local
collaboration...and, as a stretch goal, contributions to the IETF.

We have evolved to where the Remote Hubs are self-organized, and most
of the people setting them up are from universities.  The people
attending are mostly new to the IETF (e.g. students) -- so there's not
a lot of experience with active participation (joining the mic line,
etc.).  Time zones are an unavoidable issue, so we end up not having
much when the IETF meets in Asia.
