In no way am I confirming that.

I suspect there are other folks here who believe that the Standard 
should be the "(sole) source of truth".

I believe that opinion is, at best, naive.

As for your final line, "Ideally the RFCs...", I once heard:

  "If we had ham, we could have ham and eggs for breakfast.  If we had 
eggs."
