If you want to throw the rule book around XLAT isn’t even specified in a standards document. But that isn’t the point.

Could stateful XLAT be made to work on a host with a single address? Yes. Would using a single address lead to interoperability problems? No. 
I.e. it’s an implementation choice.

If IPv6 mostly ends up as a successful new model for transition, which I hope, the consequences of making it incompatible with DHCPv6 are unknown.
Perhaps the market will decide. But given that some implementations don’t have a market it’s hard to predict.
