All of this is beyond me and I clearly lack the detailed knowledge about 
all these specs regarding BNF and ABNF.

But it strikes me as a bit odd that we are stuck in this discussion in 
AUTH48. In the end, all we try to do is to specify inclusion of a MIME type!

That can't be rocket science! It must have been done before. How did 
others do it? Did they go through the same process?

Isn't there like an easy reference for doing this? If not, there should be.
