I like to also point at some developments in the marketplace such as
zerotier and especially tailscale, for how things have evolved since.

These new vpn types are very promising, wireguard in particular has
taken off everywhere. It would be good for more IETFers to try these
new tools and/or embrace them.

The rise of the fediverse is also interesting, as are the protocols
and software being designed and deployed by matrix.org.
