I knew many of the current UK cabinet at Oxford. It would be a cold day in hell before I trusted any of them to run a bath let alone trust them to run the country and still less give trustworthy advice on matters of public health.

I also knew Chris Whitty and I would trust his judgement. But I also know that his advice was over-ruled for purely political reasons on numerous occasions.

The competence of the Japanese cabinet is outside my area of expertise as the competence of the UK cabinet is outside yours.

I think that the IETF (and IETFers) should avoid straying into areas outside their areas of expertise, and just follow whatever policy is recommended by the locality where each meeting is held.
