Another one I had at $DAYJOB: we make statistics about the "most
frequently requested" domains on our authoritative name servers. Of
course, we want foo.bar.example.fr and machin.example.fr to be counted
both as "example.fr". Some DNS statistics program (like DSC) do it
blindly, just by the number of labels. But .fr delegates both at the
2nd and 3rd level (gouv.fr, asso.fr, tm.fr...). We had to use Mozilla
Public Suffix List (via the excellent
<http://www.dkim-reputation.org/regdom-libs/>) for that (for .fr, we
know the registration rules and could have hardwired them, but the
program had to work for other TLD).
