Fortunately for us all, Taiwan's government has *today* officially
discarded Tongyong Pinyin in favor of Hanyu Pinyin in its ISO 7098 form.

According to a Ministry of Education official named Chen Hsueh-yu (now
to be known as Zhen Xueyu, presumably): "Hanyu Pinyin is being used by
the United Nations and world libraries [...]. Adopting it can make it
easier for foreigners to do business or travel in Taiwan."

So now away with the random mixture of Wade-Giles, broken Wade-Giles,
Gwoyeu Romatzyh, and Tongyong Pinyin currently in use in Taiwan.
Hanyu Pinyin rulez.

(Apparently TYPY hasn't been too stable, either, from what I read;
there have been several revisions of it.)
