Not everyone are in a position to regard this as secondary. There have
been several good arguments about the usefulness of privacy when accessing
open sources. In Sweden, libraries do not keep logs about who borrowed
what after the books have been returned, and ISTR a case where the
library refused to divulge what information they had to the police unless
a warrant was served.  Because it is nobody's business except mine what I
read.  The IETF, its documents and mailing lists is not exempt from this.
Several of the revelations about government surveillance have concerned
industrial espionage. Keeping track of who reads what is definitely a 
tool in the mapping of interesting activities.
