In a way, this was a good test for a meeting in which we accept reduced onsite participation in exchange for going to a part of the world where we don't go often or we never went. I loved this meeting and I would consider it a success, and I would welcome more of these "experiments", even if they entail a drop in onsite numbers.

Well, no, as a European I can tell you that the two destinations are completely different. Bangkok, or more or less any major city in South-East and East Asia, is a single 10-12 hour flight away from Europe if you have a direct service, or a bit more if you need to connect; in any case, it's not further away than the U.S. West Coast. Australia took me two days to go and two days to get back.
