Thanks, this is the answer I was looking for. So I know that, if that final decision will happen as scheduled, after the end of this month the physical part of the meeting could still be cancelled in the uncontrollable case of a new surge in cases in March, but not in the controllable case of the IESG changing their mind on whether to hold a hybrid meeting.

Regarding whether to travel or not given the ubiquitous easing of restrictions, this is of course another personal decision. The rationale now is that it is relatively easy to catch this variant of the virus and maybe to be subject to quarantine and travel disruption, but there is no pressure on hospitals and if you are fully vaccinated, not elderly and not suffering from specific conditions the risk of developing severe illness is extremely low, comparable to the sanitary risk that we always accepted when travelling to many parts of the world.

Personally, I just checked in on a TRN-MUC-SFO flight for tomorrow, first intercontinental trip in two years, and I am stockpiling FFP2 masks and crossing my fingers. All in all, caution is good, but life is never under our full control.
