And that exactly is the problem. You have to know that and set that. All 
ISPs
NXDomain redirection I’ve encountered so far had an opt out 
functionality,
which is exactly what you described here for Firefox.

However a fresh install of Firefox is sending searches to Google 
directly. So
if I mistype something in the browser bar it is sending this to Google 
for
search. It does this without asking me if I would like to send data to 
Google
or giving me a selection first.
