yes, this is pretty much exactly what the "experimental room setup" is that you can ask for when requesting a slot. (QUIC is always asking for it, but we've only had it at one or two meetings, IIRC.) I think it worked well for us, and I think most of the core contributors would agree, but several other not-quite-core contributors felt it was worse for them than the normal layout.
