It's called "multiple independent implementations of the same spec", and
I'm not sure what's wrong about it.  Actually it's pretty good to have
alternatives and competition there, if one of the implementations is
buggy or lacking behind.

Yes, it would be even nicer if all these implementations would use
a common API so you could really just plug-replace them, and remote-control
them, all in the same way - but *that* is not "part of the spec".
