The card might be useful to prove your GE status in a situation where the line for immigration extends well past the entrance for the GE queue.  I've seen this situation at IAD and the guy with the GE passport was not treated all that politely when it appeared he was just trying to push his way to the head of the line.

He lookup up my passport, asked me if I had anything to declare (I didn't), and that was it.  Can't beat that for service!
