Well, I wouldn't dream of ratting Aaron Falk out, but when we ended up with
approximately double the number of people for the IRTF Internet of Things
discussion that we expected, and we didn't fit in the assigned room, we
ended up in a large gathering area down the hall.

I thought that was one of the most effective ad hoc meetings I've seen
recently at the IETF. It helped that it really was a "birds of a feather"
session in the traditional sense - with no mikes, presentations, etc. The
point, if I understood correctly, was for Aaron to help people who were
interested in specific topics to find each other, and to self-organize for
work together afterwards.

We cheated, and took our own chairs from the meeting room (and put them
back), but I'm not sure we absolutely had to have chairs - what we did need
to have, was a relatively quiet area where we could all sit in a series of
circles to see and hear each other.

Maybe this is something to think about, in site surveys? We've been in
hotels where there was no open sitting space except for the lobby, and we've
been in hotels that did have that kind of sitting space.

Thanks,

Spencer
