I was told I need a "non-immigrant visa" not a type B visa. My whole point was that by getting THNIC to call the embassy and explain, your list of documents should get shorter.

For me they accepted the visa application with

• my passport
• application form
• the 2 versions of the LOI available from IETF
  
• photos
• a letter from my employer documenting that I am working
  
• proof that I have flight tickets to and from Thailand
• proof of my hotel accommodation

You could try what I did. Ask via the registrar that THNIC should contact the embassy and smooth out the visa process.
