I have a bit of trouble visualizing this, but it sure sounds like a badge of honor few can aspire to. Thanks for relating this.

An Appsawg co-chair reacted and cited BCP 94 (which is now part of BCP 25) within two hours: <http://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/apps-discuss/7XNaat9R6vmb72wYroyRhCt49CY>

The transgression wasn’t about specific terminology, it was the whole message, which was extremely unprofessional. It was attacking you personally, including accusing you of saying something you didn't, and mentioned your opinion only in passing. No language sophistry was needed to detect that.

I think the process for handling such transgressions now mostly works and needn’t be part of the current discussion.
