This is my first email to 6man.

I have worked on ATM, MPLS, SR-MPLS for 25+ years.
Back in 90’s I was involved at the ATM forum.

I am quite aware of the IETF process.
I have been involved at IETF through my teams for a long time, and more of myself in the last year.

I was unsure to send this message because I see newcomers are being discouraged from engaging in 6man.

However, business reality for IPv6 is changing.
IPv6 is finding new use use-cases including SRv6.
This is why, lately, I am interested in this discussion in 6man.

I am not sure how my input will resonate with the chairs and the WG.

Some claim my input should be discarded, but for what it worth...

CRH was first introduced as a compression mechanism for SRv6+ (now named as SRm6).
There are other SRH based proposals that competes with CRH in Spring.

I was in Spring session at IETF105 (Montreal) and witnessed Bob saying [1]
[Bob Hinden] As 6man co-chair, would like to understand whether SPRING is interested in this work.
A clear message would be useful to ensure that 6man spends time usefully.

I was in Spring session at IETF106 (Singapore) and noticed Rob and Bruno said the following [2]
Bruno Decraene: Need to ensure we understand the problem as we are hearing different things, also from the draft authors.
Rob Shakir: Same comments will be raised if we do a call for adoption, so we need to address those before that.

The author should follow the chairs direction and the IETF process.

To respect the process and the fairness, the matter should be discussed first in Spring.

At this stage, I do not support WG adoption of this draft.

[2] https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/106/materials/minutes-106-spring-02

Thanks
Richard

This message starts a two-week 6MAN call on adopting:

Title: The IPv6 Compact Routing Header (CRH)
     Authors: R. Bonica, Y. Kamite, T. Niwa, A. Alston, L. Jalil
     File Name: draft-bonica-6man-comp-rtg-hdr-21
     Document date: 2020-05-14

     https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-bonica-6man-comp-rtg-hdr

as a working group item. Substantive comments regarding adopting this document should be directed to the mailing list. Editorial suggestions can be sent to the authors.

Please note that this is an adoption call, it is not a w.g. last call for advancement, adoption means that it will become a w.g. draft. As the working group document, the w.g. will decide how the document should change going forward.

This adoption call will end on 29 May 2020.

The chairs note there has been a lot of discussions on the list about this draft. After discussing with our area directors, we think it is appropriate to start a working group adoption call. The authors have been active in resolving issues raised on the list.

Could those who are willing to work on this document, either as contributors, authors or reviewers please notify the list. That gives us an indication of the energy level in the working group
    to work on this.

    Regards,
    Bob and Ole
