Actually, yes I did.  Though I didn't vocalize it, admittedly.  I
understood the "why", however, but it wasn't something I would have
suggested unless both receptions were going to be the same.

IMHO, the right thing would be to offer them at the main reception like
some hosts do, if we think it's an important element of the meeting.
