I like the newcomers reception.  I use it to meet actual newcomers, and to talk to ADs and other w.g. chair.   It’s a much better environment for these discussions than the formal welcome reception that follows.  That is much bigger and noisier.   

The newcomers reception is not perfect (what is?), but it works for me.  I hope we continue it, the alternatives are not as good.   One of its big values is that is on Sunday before the w.g. meetings start.
