I'm curious if you also strongly objected to the free drinks for the newcomers attendees (newcomers and leadership)? That explicitly excluded the vast majority of attendees as well.

FWIW I'm a chair, and I generally try to go to the newcomers, and would try and attend this new thing too, and I don't drink the free (booze) drinks, but many current newcomer leadership attendees seemed to.
