Really, what we have to do is push hard to make remote tools work.

Some WGs are very good at resolving issues via mail. Others -- and
other issues -- just don't work that way. We need to figure out how
to make it possible for more issues to be resolved in more WGs before
without having to get together in person. We've done this several
times in the past but now we *must* take the next step, we have no
choice.

Videoconferencing is not necessary (although it's nice to be able to
show people a pad of paper you're drawing on), but good queue
management is. Meeting tools need to ensure that everyone is heard,
and that topic threads are kept organized and distinct until the time
to bring them back together.

There are audio conference tools for participants to "raise their
hands" and for moderators to call on them. There are text-based tools
(real-time and not) that can do the same thing. I still like the
MediaMoo "conference rooms".

Wikis are useful for organizing issues and serve us well but
apparently they are not enough.

Is there a forum where tools for enhancing WG progress are worked on?
tools-discuss is mainly about the tracker.

Scott
