> Perhaps if we tried to exercise a bit more humility when faced with potential new work we might become more successful in attracting new talent at the same time. Emphatic +1. This alone could help many of our problems including attracting new talent. mike -----Original Message----- From: ietf <ietf-bounces@ietf.org> On Behalf Of Leif Johansson Sent: Thursday, April 15, 2021 3:33 PM To: ietf@ietf.org Subject: Re: the old fellowship program, was Wow, we're famous > If anyone has a better answer, I'd love to hear about it! > > - Ted I think we should give up on attracting the Good Individual (TM) to the IETF and focus on attracting new communities into the organization. Quite a bit of ad-hoc standardization happens without our involvement. Most of us would say this is a Good Thing and proof that the overall Internet architecture is sound and allows innovation. Despite all the turmoil in recent months and years, there is value in (some of) the culture of the IETF. Perhaps if we tried to exercise a bit more humility when faced with potential new work we might become more successful in attracting new talent at the same time. (Also, a bit of humility often helps with inclusivity too) No I don't want to get into specifics but I think we could all recall a BoF or two that made us cringe at the thought of how we choose to treat newcomers sometimes. Cheers Leif
