In my case at least it simply wouldn’t have happened, since I’ve never
found gather usable, and so wouldn’t have been at this putative gathering.
It would be better to meet via zoom. But that’s the thing: definitely
meetings happened on person that have not been happening for me at remote
IETFs.

Maybe this is because I’m an aged dinosaur, but I suspect it’s more than
that. Better tools might improve this situation, of course. But not gather.
