Hi Jordi,

Actually according my understanding Italy is closed. You are not allowed to move from one region to another. People are told to stay at home unless of critical reasons. In the north, in Lombardy where my wife is from the hospitals seem to be at max capacity. In addition, you don’t need martial law as many countries have laws for the confinement of outbreaks like this. For instance, they confined about thousand people in a hotel in Tenerife just a couple of weeks ago.

I’m sure this was a difficult decision, but one cannot do anything else but support IETF on this and hope we can make the best out of the virtual meeting.

Cheers,

Jonne.

Ps. Jordi, though IETF is not there, Vancouver still is. You can still go there if you want to use your ticket. I think some people went to Cancun this week even if the ICANN meeting which was supposed to be there was converted to a virtual meeting.

In fact it has been said that restricting movement of people is against constitution unless the martial law is declared, because the government could only impose that if doing an analysis you have the virus, which for me, makes a lot of sense then.
