Remember whilst we get to choose whether we go or not the staff that run the meeting do not have that choice.

Just being in the same large meeting as someone with Covid-19 is likely to get everyone a 14 day quarantine.

Being sick in a foreign country is not much fun (been there twice, once needing hospital) having a long quarantine possibly on both sides of the boarder ads plenty to the misery.

I am sure that the IESG made the call with the best information, they had. It is a difficult job that they do at times like this. We should support them.

As to cancellation costs, wait until the last minute and some other factor may cut in and mean that the airline or your insurance pick up the bill.
