+1; I agree there was rough consensus (the overwhelming majority
appeared to support the compromise, though there were strong
objections from the remaining minority).

My personal position is in favor of the compromise as presented and
hummed.  I don't _like_ it, but it's better than the alternatives,
including doing nothing.
