I've said it before and I will say it again:

* Limiting ourselves to "hubs" will further limit our ability to find 
  suitable meeting venues, something which is already challenging 
  because our dates are locked (for good reasons).

* While it may be easy to define a hub on paper, reality tends to make 
  things a lot more complicated. A fair number of our attendees are 
  "locked in" with certain air carriers and are thus forced to travel 
  through THEIR hubs rather than what we might define as hubs.

* Hubs (assuming we agree on the definition) tend to be in expensive 
  locations, and while we should not dismiss what you call "aggregated 
  costs" (and pain), the additional travel expenses could easily be 
  offset by lower (average) hotel and living costs, such as in 
  Hiroshima. This isn't meant to be an argument for only choosing 
  non-hubs, just an illustration that there are tradeoffs involved.
