Joel,

Spending the night at a hotel was one of the options listed on my 
website. The next steps would have been the airport express train
to Tokyo and the bullet train from there to Hiroshima. Not a whole
lot harder to get to than Yokohama or central Tokyo actually, but
yes, it takes more time.
