I think this statement minimizes the problems some people had, and 
unfairly makes it all their own fault.  Personally, I did a lot of 
research, but to avoid an overnight in NRT/TKO had to take a 
once-a-day domestic connection, then a taxi, then a train, then 
another taxi.  It wasn't easy or pleasant, and relied heavily on 
ground transport.  Relying entirely on ground transport would have 
added another day.  (I admit I could also have taken a different 
carrier which had different destinations, but that meant forgoing an 
upgrade plus other problems.)

I disagree and find the statement patronizing.  Doing research can 
allow one to attempt to select the best option, but that may still 
involve problems.
